Dwell Home: Silicon Valley... some stuff

The Dwell Home:  Silicon Valley opened up to the public yesterday.  I was pretty busy most of the day but did manage to take a few photos.

Before I go into that, let's talk about the stairs.  Also, I need to set the tone:  this was funny.

I fell down the stairs (an entire flight!) in front of a camera crew and a bunch of other people.  Hours later when I was telling some friends who had been outside at the time, they told me they had assumed those "large thuds" were industrial equipment being dropped or something.  But no, it was just me, Sally, falling down the stairs.  It should also be mentioned that this clumsy lady ripped her very pretty jacket in the process, and somehow managed to have not one but two of her shoes thrown off her feet.  When I had finally "landed" I said "THIS HOUSE IS SO BEAUTIFUL THAT IT DOESN'T JUST KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF, IT KNOCKS YOUR SHOES OFF AS WELL!!!"

So, with that said, here's some shots (very few) of the interior of the house (dude, I fell down the stairs in front of everyone):

"I'm a model, you know what I mean.  And I do my little turn on the catwalk."  Sorry.  Whenever I walk across the catwalk (it's actually called a bridge but I'm a 25-year old who wears heels so it's a damned catwalk) I sing that song in my head and try to make Zoolander faces.  Either way, this is one of the many shots from the catwalk (bridge).  If you're on the catwalk you're walking from the stairwell and bedrooms to the master suite.

What you're looking at here is some FSC certified, Formaldehyde-free Brazilian Cherry floors, some CaesarStone quartz (long bench), an alcohol burning* fireplace and wicked awesome looking mantel designed and made by the home owner,  some Blu Dot, some Arco, some CITIZEN: Citizen, and, of course, some Knoll (I love you, baby).  Off to the left is the most beautiful earth plaster ever.

This reading nook was (is) definitely a crowd favorite, but unfortunately it's on the stairwell so it's pretty much impossible for an amateur like me to take a good photo of it.  Either way, it rules.  You'll just have to come to the open house this weekend and see it for yourself.

Kitchen (island) has two heights.  One is fixed at 36" high for adults, and the smaller one is adjustable for the kids (right now it's at 26").  Furniture by STAACH.

If there is like some type of Penny Tile Fetish Association of America then they should definitely check-out this photo.  The penny tile backsplash in the kitchen is so gorgeous, even penny tile haters (there are a lot, surprisingly) appreciate that it looks really good.  Just a FYI, this is an under cabinet shot.  Quartz countertop, penny tile, and a great window that lets a lot of light in.

The landing has a window that looks into the home owner's home office.  This way she can get A) an amazing view of the outside (this window looks directly up into the reading nook that has a REALLY big window), and B) can keep an eye on her kids when they're running up or down the stairs or hanging out in the reading nook.

GORGEOUS NeoPort door (impossible for me to photograph!)

Kids bathroom.  It's so lovely in there.

*Thanks Mark!

Hi Sally! Great shots. Hope you remember me, Choie, the Filipino architect you met on the Trade Only openhouse...
I would like to invite you to my Multiply site where I have instead posted the pictures I took of the house and you.http://cyfunk.multiply.com/photos/album/166?mark_read=cyfunk:photos:166&replies_read=67
I am also writing a separate blog of you and what we talked about: Sustainability in design. I have been so inspired by what I have seen, I think I may want to go into that as I go back to the Philippines and continue my career in Architecture.
Will keep you posted, in the meantime, hope you can visit my site. I don't think you can leave a cooment if you don't have an account so please email me at cyfunk@sbcglobal.net for your comments. Hope to hear from you and more power!
